1. Smuggling Grapes Out of print and unavailable A mere month and a half after recording the self titlied EP, we made a voyage from East Lansing, MI to New York City to record our first full length record. Early one morning, we piled into a red Jeep Cherokee with a U-Haul trailer attached, housing all of our gear. Not far into the trip, Zach performed the single greatest “bathroom in motion” maneuver ever witnessed. Not wanting to stop to pee, Zach put the car on cruise control while Sami held the wheel from the passenger seat. Zach then got up on his knees, in the driver seat, and began to relieve himself into an empty Gatorade bottle. Yes, Zach is a very capable drummer, but this is the stuff of legend and the mark of a truly gifted human being. Once in New York, we had the privilege of recording with Rod Hui (everything classic hip hop) at the now defunct Greene St. Recordings in Soho. He was very professional and somewhat intimidating. Out of our element in a professional studio(albeit a basement studio!), we felt a lot of pressure as we tried to track and mix a full length record in 5 days. It was in this session that all of the early Adam’s Castle songs were committed to tape. Most of these songs actually predate the self titled EP. Inexperienced and somewhat (read very) naive, we second guessed ourselves and our final product with which we returned home from New York. What had been a very solidly recorded and mixed record ended up getting remixed and worsened at another studio. It just goes to show that sometimes you’ve gotta go with what you’ve got and piss behind the wheel..
