Ah, the basement years! After performing our songs at college basement parties for a year, this was our first attempt at a recording. Sami and Zach had made a demo prior to Eric joining in the summer of 99. Eric still has that tape in a box somewhere.

Our good friend Jason Lantrip recorded this in his basement studio, called Trash 180 in just a couple days in the spring of 2001. The recording captures the spirit of the band at this time very well, at a time when we were basement show clean up hitters. The early life of Adam’s Castle seemed to have existed entirely in basements.

The most magical moments of the EP occurred out of spontaneity and Jason’s post production trickery. The recording even has vocals! At the end of The Message, you can hear Jason’s then very young son, Keiran, uttering a wordless call from the top of the stairs.

Initially released as a very DIY deal, we printed the sleeves, which were mere pieces of paper, with homemade rubber stamps. This edition numbered about 200, with one including a bonus surprise of a condom inside the CD case! Later on, in 2008, Eric found one of these copies in the local section of Encore Recordings in Ann Arbor, MI. Apparently, someone didn’t like it very much. No longer owning one of these original copies, Eric bought it for four dollars and 72 cents.

This release was later put out by Tremolo Feedback Recordings with slicker packaging.
